Please join Preservation Forsyth as we explore the Washington Park National Register Historic District on a free 2 hour walking tour: Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 10am. We’ll discuss the history of the park itself; how Washington Park and Sunnyside developed together; why Cascade Avenue was known as the city’s “third” Millionaire’s Row; see Christian Fogle’s cattle farm; highlight local architects Willard Northup, Luther Lashmit, and in particular Hall Crews; and recognize the small black community that existed within a predominately white, wealthy neighborhood. (Each tour stands on its own, but the Sunnyside and Washington Park Tours are interconnected in many ways.) We’ll meet and begin at City Park Church (formerly Schlatter Memorial Reformed Church), and end just a few blocks away. Parking will be on surrounding streets. Tour audio will be available through your own phone (feel free to use your own headphones as well) which allows us to follow Covid safety measures such as social distancing. The walk will be about a mile in total, all on sidewalks or roads, but with some slight hills.
